Coloradans care about kids, but most people aren't sure how to help.
Everyone knows what foster care is, but depressing statistics and rumors of a "broken system" make average people think its better left to professionals and "heroes."

THE PROBLEM
Say the words "foster care" and you'll likely hear:
"OH. THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN."
Foster parents make sure kids aren't left alone in a broken system.
No one claims that foster parenting is easy.
Agencies estimate that 70% of certified homes do not make it through their second year.

WE'RE HERE TO CHANGE THE STORYAs foster parents, we know that people quit because support is hard to find. Few people understand the unique challenges (and joys!) of caring for kids from hard places. And few people know exactly what to do to make foster parenting a little easier on their neighbors (in large part, because most Coloradans have never met a foster parent).

Our year-one plan includes two steps to share the burden of foster care in our Colorado communities.
How We'll Do It: In general, two myths persist about foster parents. Either they're "doing it for the money" (sometimes true, but not the norm) or they're a special, heroic kind of person with time and a big heart to spare. Through a public relations campaign based on real life foster parents, Foster Together will introduce you to "someone like you" who makes foster care work, with the right motivations and support from neighbors.
How We'll Do it: When tragedy strikes, local communities jump in with tangible relief efforts. Foster care exists as disaster relief in the most tragic of life events for a child. Through Random Acts of Foster Kindness, we connect neighbors with foster parents to meet a simple need like a delicious feast delivered at dinnertime, or transportation for a child's therapy appointments. We make it easy. We make it fast. We make it relational.
