Foster Neighbors in California

SCROLL DOWN

Foster Neighbors in California

Children need families and families need support.

JUNE 13: WE’RE LAUNCHING IN LAKE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

We make it easy for local volunteers, called “Foster Neighbors,” to support excellent, caring foster homes.

Simple actions—like dropping off a meal once a month—help our best resource (foster) parents stay “in it” with the children who need them most.

Children feel safe & nurtured when they are in a consistent, calm environment. Parents can provide that when they feel supported. However, resource (foster) parents don’t often have “a village” to help bear the load of love, empowering them to continue helping children heal.

This leads to high burnout rates, and less quality homes for children.

But here’s the good news: YOU can support this crucial work, in under two hours a month.

YOU can offer a little more mental space and household peace.

YOU can be part of the community that says, “This child is worth the effort. Press on!”

WHY THIS MATTERS

foster care lake county

Right now, Lake County California does not have enough homes willing to care for neglected or abused children. Children who are removed from their biological parents are scared, overwhelmed, and confused. If the state is unable to place them in a long term foster home, these children will likely be required to spend nights in a shelter or in an emergency care home. While these options tend to genuinely care and value the children, its stability and consistency that the children will best thrive from.

60% of Lake County’s children in foster care are sent across county lines, away from their families, schools, and familiar comforts.

Our solution? To support excellent resource (foster) homes, reducing the burn-out rate, and giving Lake County residents a personal connection to foster care.

By coming alongside resource (foster) parents to listen and encourage, we aim to empower these families to continue their good work.

Simply put: we want to share the load of love.

The Child Welfare office is contracting with Foster Together to match a Foster Neighbor with every foster family around the lake.

Together, we’re showing up for Lake County kids, proving that everyone can do something to help children in foster care.

REQUEST A FOSTER NEIGHBOR IN LAKE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

WHAT IS IT? Our volunteer Foster Neighbors are trained to bring monthly meals (and an encouraging smile) to resource families. They want to help you provide a loving, stable home.

Our volunteers are trained, vetted, and background checked. After we make the initial match, we let you and the Foster Neighbor manage your relationship, as you both see fit. We’ll check in monthly to see how it’s going.

Once you apply, we’ll send you a 20-minute training, to help you understand the program (you must complete this training by May 31). Then, around June 13th, you’ll receive a call from your Foster Neighbor to set up your first meal delivery!
